The guys from Albright Tackle have stepped up this year to support The Nation and put up for grabs a 9 foot 8/9wt Topwater Fly Rod. Make sure your in attendance for this!

This smartly-priced selection of four-piece Topwater fly rods is designed with a performance, compound taper that is unmatched at this price point. The light tip action flexes quickly into the rod’s midsection to protect lighter tippets on big fish. High line speed and line control are an added performance feature, while using IM6 Graphite along with a fine glass scrim, to offer up a lightweight durable fly rod. Hard chromed guides and high-strength ceramic-core aluminum stripping guides that are anodized allow for smooth line transfer and years of use against the harshest of elements. The end result is the Topwater fly rod provides amazing fly presentation by turning over your leader without shock and delivering the fly with accuracy. Our up-locking high-density polymer reel seats utilize anodized aluminum fittings, securing your fly reel and ensuring years of use. These all around great casting, great fishing fly rods represent a compelling value to the beginner as well as a smart back-up purchase for the more advance angler. The choices of Rods are the 3 most popular sizes and Rods of this quality sell for substantially more at Retail. Rebranding the rod with the new logo and adding a Cordura tube with the new cloth rod sock only enhances the 1st time experience for the new angler.

Thanks So Much for the support Zack And Crew

Just back from the Somerset Fly Fishing Show in New Jersey. What a great time and the support from all the manufacturer’s reps was humbling. Hardy, Echo, Scott, Rio, Sage, Tight Lines Fly Fishing, Rio, Airflo, TFO and all the rest were there and already asking for details. We inquired with 4 new companies who are checking schedules and expressed interest includign G Loomis, Rise Fly Fishing, Mystic Fly Fishing and Allen Fly Fishing. Check our website www.speynation.com for more information about which companies are going to be attending. Great to see and talk to you all! You can’t have bad conversations when it’s centered around two handed rods and steelhead!

We have had a busy fall working on our hatchery at the Harden dam site in McConnellsville this year. The modifications made to our hatchery equipment and the building itself should provide a safer environment for this up-coming year’s eggs:

Our tank #3 hinged cover was removed and the tank modified to be like our tanks 1 & 2.

Tank stabalizing systems have been installed on all 3 tanks to prevent tipping if flooding should happen again; tanks should float up, if water floods the hatchery.

Insulation has been installed to reduced heat losses from the hatchery during freezing weather.

Insulation has been installed to all 3 tanks.

Piping to each tank has been installed and supported as needed.

Hurricane tabs have been installed as required by our building design.

The roof is in the process of being finished; one more work day this Friday should finish that; if you are able to help, please respond by return e-mail.

Respectfully submitted,

As chrome steelhead ascend the great lakes tributaries, your Spey Nation team has been busy shaking babies and kissing hands in an attempt to make Spey Nation V the best it possibly could be. We have taken 66 returned surveys from you, which is better than I thought I would get and taken the advice to heart. First of all we have sent invitations all over the world to companies who may be interested in talking to you about spey fishing. The first company to step up is Vision Fly Fishing. Taken directly from the Vision website,

“Fly Fishing is not only a fun sport for us. We at Vision also love developing fly tackle and promoting this great way of using your valuable free time. Being serious but having fun at the same time and not forgetting the main issues of fly fishing has taken us to the position we have today. There’s Vision in fly fishing in over 30 countries world wide.”

Vision Fly Fishing makes rods, both double handers and single, reels, lines, leaders, poly’s, Tippets and leaders, Waders, boots and clothing. You name it and Vision probably has a product for it. Appearing on behalf of Vision Fly Fishing and Fielding your questions will be Mike Barrand.

“Mike has always had a passion for the outdoors. Whether it’s mountain biking, surfing, rock climbing
or just a simple hike, his interests have always reflected his love of nature and adventure. And those interests are what led him to cast his first fly rod in Newfoundland – on a day that changed his life. With that first throw, Mike knew fly fishing would now be the way he’d connect with nature. Since that day, Mike has immersed himself into the sport, having been offered the opportunity to fly fish in some of the best waters across the country and learn from some of the best instructors in the world. Now an accomplished caster in his own right, he shares his joy of the sport being the casting instructor for one of Ontario’s top rafting companies. Always smiling, you can count on Mike for an entertaining conversation or to give you advice on casting and set-ups.“

Mike has also recently confided in me that he only uses 2 flies for steelhead…I’ll let you try and figure out what those flies are.

Vision has also stepped up big time by offering a 7wt 12’6″ Cult rod with a GT reel and matching Ace shooting head to be raffled off at Spey Nation V. How awesome is THAT!

So it’s November, Spey Nation is July 14, 2012 and we have already announced 2 huge additions, Vision Fly Fishing, and appearing in person, Tim Rajeff.

Sept. 22, 2011 Meeting Minutes/News: The monthly meeting of the Fish Creek Atlantic Salmon Club was called to order at 7:10 PM by Tom Schneider.

Tom reported on the ultra-violet degradation of our sign at the hatchery and his effort to have a new sign made.

Discussion continued on things we are doing to modify the hatchery equipment and enclosure for this year:

· Tank #1 has been moved and modified to be more like #2 & #3. A new stand for it has been completed. The tank floatation guide system has been completed and foam insulation inserted into the tank wall cavities. The tank has been leveled and insulated. New egg baskets will still need to be built for this tank.

· Tank #2 has been insulated and leveled. The tank flotation guide system still needs to be installed.

· Tank #3 was moved to a better location, insulated and leveled. The floatation guide system still needs to be installed.

· Sheet plastic has been installed under the cement ceiling section of the hatchery to reduce heat loss there. Insulation may be added later.

· The heavy clear plastic material, which Gene had recommended, is being installed to improve the down-stream curtain end of the hatchery.

· Harden plans to complete work on the hatchery roof, as soon as their work schedule permits.

· Scheduled work days to complete the planned modifications will continue at 9:30 AM each Sunday, until the work is completed.

Meeting adjourned at around 8:00 PM. Our next meeting will be held on October 27th at 7 PM in the Camden Rod and Gun Club Building.

Much of this is made possible by the contributions of Spey Nation.

August 25, 2011 Meeting Minutes/News: The monthly meeting of the Fish Creek Atlantic Salmon Club was called to order at 7:10 PM by Tom Schneider.

Tom reported on his progress toward developing the new poster for the identification of Atlantic salmon in comparison to brown trout. The poster will show actual pictures to help fishermen determine the difference.

Discussion continued on things we feel need to be done to modify the hatchery equipment and enclosure for this year:

· We are planning to add insulation and plastic film to parts of the hatchery to reduce the heat losses.

· Tank #1 has been moved and modified to be more like #2 & #3. We plan to build a new stand for it to be like the others. New egg baskets will also need to be built for this tank.

· Gene Carey presented a clear heavy vinyl material and drawing for improving the curtain end for the downstream end of the hatchery. While it is more expensive, it definitely looks good and should last for several years. If temperature tests look satisfactory, we could to go ahead with the new curtain.

· We plan to use vertical ¾ inch pipe and stainless steel screw eyes attached to our tank stands to allow our tanks and stands to float up safely in case of flooding. This will prevent the tanks from rolling, and when the water goes back down the tanks will resume their original position again.

· After much discussion on how to reduce the silt in our tank water, we decided to investigate a nearby stream that may be a source for cleaner water and better pressure. Since water tests will be needed, water flow available throughout the winter determined and possible permissions needed, we will not be able to complete this modification this year. This would be a fairly large project for us to undertake, but the benefits could solve both the silt and the water supply pressure problems expected during flood conditions.

· Scheduled work days to do the modifications will start Sept. 4th at 9:30 AM and continue each Sunday, same time, thereafter until the work is completed.

Meeting adjourned at around 8:30 PM. Our next meeting will be held on September 22nd at 7 PM in the Camden Rod and Gun Club Building.

Respectfully submitted,

Arley Morey, Club Secretary

Just wanted to take a moment to thank everyone who took the Spey Nation survey last month. It’s incredibly humbling to hear some of the positive thoughts that came out of the comment section. One of the themes from that section are that you all look forward to seeing old friends and making new one at Spey Nation. That’s one of the reasons I do this, the connections I make with you all. For that, I wanted to send out my sincerest thanks.

For the suggestion sections, that helps even more. We (Dave and I) have compiled all the great suggestions and are working on a way to make as many of those come true as possible. As with everything that comes with Spey Nation, we want to make it the best we can. Many have expressed interest in inviting more companies to attend. On that note, we have, and continue to have a letter and email campaign to those companies we find that would be appropriate to attend Spey Nation. I invite you all, as I know we all make phone calls to our favorite companies throughout the year about lines and such, to extend an open invite to anybody you would like to see come. The more the merrier and everybody benefits. Just send me an email with contact info if they would like to receive one of my many coveted email invites! Chances are they have heard from us, but you never know. It’s true that Spey Nation has it’s leadership and they help me immensely, but we’re all part of the machine and it will evolve into what we make of it.

A number of years ago, there was a rumor flying through the crowd that G. Gordon Liddy had been spotted by The Nation and was in attendance. That was never confirmed nor disproved.

This year, I”ve heard an even more absurd tale bubbling up from the undercurrents of the Salmon…Tim Rajeff…
