This continues the company’s long standing tradition of supporting our ongoing conservation efforts to restore Atlantic Salmon to the Oneida Lake drainage and specifically Fish Creek. Proceeds to all the Spey Nation Raffles will be donated to the Fish Creek Atlantic Salmon Club to help support their efforts.
Maybe the “Sweetheart” in the series! Mainly because this rod can be fished confidently anywhere in the lower 48 and abroad for summer or winter Steelhead and will cross-over into Chinook territory. Our Beulah Platinum spey rod 7wt., 13’2” is not an 8 weight in 7 weight clothing, it is an extremely “Crisp” 7 weight that loads easily with a variety of lines and casting styles. The finished rod weighs only 6.8 ounces making it easy to fish long hard days on the water chasing “Steel”. Ridiculously light in hand this rod balances with reels as light as 8 ounces and handles reels nicely to 11 ounces. You won’t have a hard time finding a place for this rod in your two-handed quiver!
Use of rod: Fishing variety of lines for Steelhead, Atlantic Salmon, Chinook and Sea run Browns, Chinook and Silver Salmon.
Action: Slightly regressed Traditional “Spey” action/ fast recovery
In an email correspondence with the Fish Creek Atlantic Salmon Club,
We’re off to a good start this year. We got 47,500 eggs and losses have been minimal. The eggs are starting to hatch so we expect to be moving from the incubator building to the hatchery within a few months, depending on the weather.
That sounds great and can’t wait to see them in the river this June.
Check out the video I made while spending the day with the club stocking the Atlantic Salmon that were partially paid for and supported by our raffles at Spey Nation Events. See you all this June 24th at the Pineville Lot for our 10th Spey Nation Celebration!
We’ve had many supporters at Spey Nation with us from the beginning. Andrew Moy, Owner of Tight Lines Fly Fishing in Parsippany, NJ has been one of them. Between giving one of the most informative presentations every year to donating overnight stays at his 2 cabins on the Beaverkill, Drew’s generosity knows no boundries. He’s also one of the most approachable guys I know in the industry. If you have a chance to talk with him before or after the show, take advantage of it. He takes front and center at 10:00Am on Saturday.
Owner of Tight Lines Flyfishing, if you are interested in spey casting, there’s no need to look anywhere else. Whether you are new to the two-handed game or have some experience under your belt, shop owner Andrew Moy can help. To date, Andrew has taught over 1000 anglers both basic and advanced techniques and has demonstrated for numerous fly fishing groups and organizations. A lesson or two will demystify the art of spey casting and you’ll be on the water on your own in no time.
About our new supporter of Spey Nation! Guide Christopher Tobias grew up fishing for salmon, trout, and Great Lakes steelhead on the Eastern end of Lake Ontario in central New York. From a young age, Christopher was wading around the many Lake Ontario tributaries in pursuit of the finned creatures that inhabit the flowing waters starting in the late Fall. After seeing pictures of Alaska, Christopher knew that one day he would find himself there.
Those pictures eventually became a reality and Christopher and his family found themselves migrating to Alaska. Christopher and his family reside in Wasilla where they base their business, Roe Hard Guide Service, out of. This provides a unique opportunity for Christopher to be able to guide on the many rivers and creeks to the North of Anchorage, as well as South on the Kenai Peninsula.
For more information about Chris and his guide service in Alaska please visit his website: http://roehard.com/
A little more about this trip from Chris
September is a great time for big bows on the Kenai. Next year will be a great year since it will be a pink run on the Kenai. Lots of flesh and food in the water. It tends to bring out the big boys from the depths of the lake.Depending on where the winner and his group are flying out of, they can find decent priced flights into Anchorage with limited connections. They can bring their own gear if they want. I will have extra spey rods, all the flies they will need, and some single hand rods to use while we move between runs. The Kenai River Lodge is right next to the river in Soldotna, and is decently priced. http://www.kenairiverlodge.
com/If they want something a little more “Alaskan”, they can check out the Moose River Resort. http://mooseriverresort.com/The winner and his group can purchase their license and print it right online. https://www.adfg.alaska.gov/ Store/I hope you guys have a great turn out this year. It seems to just keep getting larger and larger every year.

Walt brings to the water each day his in depth knowledge and enthusiasm which enables you to become better fly fishers. I told this story before about our friend Lee Davison and you can read about how excited we are to have him back here. But there is more to the story. Lee took first in his division at the annual Jimmy Green Spey O Rama Spey Casting Championship held at the Golden Gate Casting Club in San Francisco. With a monumental single spey cast off his right hand of 146 feet (Which would have sailed across the parking lot in Pineville from the river) he now joins the growing number of spey casting champions who have appeared at Spey Nation. If you remember, Whitney and Travis won their respective divisions last year. In fact, Spey Nation presenters have won all categories within the last 2 years. We can’t wait to hang out with our friend from Idaho. You need to make a point of stopping by his booth and checking out his signature lines, Ballistic Spey Lines on your sticks. I am sure you will find a pure magical match. You’ll also find a few of his lines on display at the raffle tables so take your chances to win your own!
More on Lee:
Lee is the designer/owner of the Ballistic Speyline Products; CEO of Snake River Outfitters; Snowbee UK distributor for USA; an international Spey Casting competitor; and ex-officio President of the Federation of Flyfishers Western Rocky Mountain Council. Also, IFFF Certified Master Casting Instructor, IFFF Certified Two-Hand Casting Instructor, and a licensed Idaho guide, Lee combines both a calming patience and an infectious enthusiasm for teaching single hand or Spey casting techniques, building confidence and skill in his students.
In the past few years and with the explosion of tools to spey fish trout with, eastern trout fisherman have been getting creative. And what better backdrop to brain storm in, than the famous streams and tailwaters of the Catskills. We also have the perfect base camp. Supporter The West Branch Angler Resort. They have donated
2 nights on the West Branch of the Delaware River in a Grandview Cabin Party of 2.
Dates 7/1/15 — 12/31/15
Back when Spey Nation was an idea, in fact I don’t think we had come up with the name yet, I received a phone call from Peck, ID. The voice on the other line asked if we could use a donation to help support our clave. Of course we accepted and a short time later I recieved a package in the mail, which we promptly gave away at our first gathering. Since 2008, Poppy has come through every year outfitting one of us with a lot of spey equipment. The Red Shed Fly Shop is the exclusive dealer for Gaelforce Lines So, since he has something to talk about and promote, this year to join our festivities.
Poppy came out to Spey Nation last year for the first time and he and Mrs. Red Shed must have liked what they saw because they are planning the cross country drive again to answer all you questions. Can’t wait to see our friends again!
In case you missed the video,
Poppy is also donating an Abel Spey reel
