Poppy’s Continued Support Humbles

Jul 3, 2013   //   by Geoff Schaake   //   Cack Handed, Like Minded Mofos, Mojo, Raffle Prizes  //  Comments Off on Poppy’s Continued Support Humbles

Back in the winter of 2008, when Spey Nation was in it’s infancy, I received a call one day from Poppy at the Red Shed Fly Shop in Peck, ID.  Think of it.  A spey fishing legend seeking out some nobody from the great lakes who was hoping to get 10 people to come to a Spey Clave…whatever that was.  Sight unseen, he offered to give us a rod and reel to give away to our members.  “That’s a good idea” I thought, “give away something to our guests at Spey Nation”.  In fact I don’t even think we had a name yet.

Poppy’s quest to get spey rods in the hands of as many fishermen and women as possible has become our quest as well. I wish we could send everyone home with a rod.  And this year he has stepped up to help us do that again.

Poppy at the Red Shed has donated a 7129-4 Echo 3 rod, along with a matching Rage head and floating poly leader

We thank Poppy and all those like him.  Check out what he does for a living in this video

Tom Larimer unable to attend

Jul 2, 2013   //   by Geoff Schaake   //   Cack Handed, Like Minded Mofos, Mojo, Spey Nation Presenter  //  Comments Off on Tom Larimer unable to attend

Due to circumstances beyond our control, Tom Larimer will not be able to attend Spey Nation VI.  Hopefully schedules will be such that he can attend in the future.  I was looking forward to showing him what we have built out our way.  But “If you build it, they will come”  Eric Reed is on stand by and ready to enlighten us on the saltwater applications of the 2 hander.  Let me tell you, a short time with Eric will convince you that there are many.  Last year, Beulah/Bauer/Watermaster Rep Eric Reed gave a riveting presentation on casting a 2 hander overhead for distance and stripers.   (That’s one P for Stripers…the fish)  If you happened to miss it or you are attending for the first time, this one is not to be missed.
I can’t wait to see it again.

He will give his talk at 2pm.

Eric Reed…in his own words:  I am a: photographer, father, outdoorsman, camper, scientist, tall, tattooed, fly fishing sales rep. with a love for music and travel. I try to take the time to smell the roses and snap a photo or video of them as well. I am trying to show the places and things that I encounter during my blessed life.

Welcome to Tight Lines North!

Located on the lower Beaverkill River in East Branch, NY, Tight Lines North is central to it all: Roscoe, Hancock, Upper East, Lower East, Bard Parker, West Branch, Cairns, Callicoon, Willowemoc, Junction and Jaws. Those are just a few of the names associated with the finest trout fishing on the east coast to which Tight Lines North will provide quick and easy access.

Tight Lines North is conveniently located 3/4 of a mile from the confluence of the Beaverkill and East Branch Rivers. One minute’s drive from exit 90 of Route 17 will get you to 4 acres of pine trees, gardens and sitting areas with a path leading to 300′ of Beaverkill riverfront. The property offers exclusive access to classic pools and runs of the Lower Beaverkill filled with rising trout. A free-standing screened in porch, 8′ picnic table, charcoal barbecue and fire pit are conveniently located along the river’s bank for relaxation. If you chose to explore other sections of the fabled Delaware River system, they are only a short double haul away.

The Blue Quill is an updated home tastefully decorated in country decor with a distinctive fishing theme throughout that will comfortably sleep up to five guests. It offers three bedrooms, a well equipped kitchen, washer and dryer and a living room complete with an equipped fly tying area. The exterior of the cottage is complete with a wrap around porch and gas barbecue. The Blue Quill’s master bedroom has a comfortable full-sized bed while the second bedroom provides two twin beds and the third bedroom one twin bed.

The Rusty Spinner boasts a modern but rustic studio style living area complete with outside deck and up-to-date amenities including a refrigerator, coffee maker, microwave, and gas barbecue. This is the perfect place to call home after a long day on the river. It’s one full and two twin beds will comfortably sleep up to three people.

Both are equipped with high speed internet, outside gas barbecues and provide private access and river frontage via a path to the lower Beaverkill. There is also a private dirt road, which accesses the lower property along the river, where a canoe or pontoon boat can be launched or pulled out from.

The property is central to prime fishing as shown in the map below
