Casting For Recovery

Mar 30, 2012   //   by Geoff Schaake   //   Cack Handed, Like Minded Mofos  //  Comments Off on Casting For Recovery

I have been asked to pass this along and I’ll do it gladly

——————————————————————————-

Casting For Recovery is a charity program that introduces women who have survived breast cancer to fly fishing. In many cases the ladies are devastated by the experience with cancer and are in need of something to take their minds away from the battle with the disease.

Everyone here knows what I know; that nothing clears and refreshes the mind like time on a river or creek. Casting For Recovery has a network of volunteers across America who help to host Fly Fishing Retreats for women who are interested in trying the river as a place of refuge. But there are expenses…….

There is an effort that involves internet voting that will help the program to win a $50,000 grant to fuel these retreats underway right now. I am providing this link ……….. http://www.pinkwell.org/voting/ and I hope you will see fit to use it to register to vote for this most worthy cause.

In order to vote people must enter their e-mail address, that’s all. After doing so the home page sends a ‘voting link’ to the in box of the new supporter and they use it to cast the daily vote. I have been doing this since the challenge began and there is ‘no spam, junk mail or anything else associated with this registration’ none at all. It is what it sounds like, a contest to win support and awareness for the survivors of the disease.

The organization is on the very top of the page right under a fund raising promotion offering a book for sale. Don’t worry about the book, The vote is what we need. after today you’ll have to scroll down to find the vote button and you can vote once a day until May 15.

Mystic Rods is added to the ever growing Nation

Mar 27, 2012   //   by Geoff Schaake   //   Cack Handed, Like Minded Mofos, Raffle Prizes  //  Comments Off on Mystic Rods is added to the ever growing Nation

We met Dennis from Mystic Rods several years ago at the Somerset Fly Fishing Show.  Us, a small but growing band of addicts of the swing thinking that maybe there were more of us out there, getting the usual, well “How many people do you expect” and “This is your first one huh” responses from the industry.  On the way down we thought that since we had a few companies show interest in the first Nation gathering, then the others would follow suit.  Dennis and Co had the same idea in mind, that if he came to the Fly Fishing Show, put a quality product in people’s hands, then things would happen.  Over beers, after the show we talked about spey and switch, Mystic wasn’t making them at the time but had plans to, and we have kept in loose touch over the years.  Well, things have happened, for both endevours.  We are currently in our fifth year of planning gatherings and Dennis is putting quality rods in people’s hands.

Fast forward to yesterday.  Mystic Fly Rods now has a full quiver of Switch Rods and they are ready to put those rods in your hands.  Mystic Fly Rods is now part of The Nation!

They are also putting their 11 foot 8wt stick in our raffles for you to take a stab at.  It is currently the Fly Fish America 2012 Gear Guide Editors Choice and a success story in it’s own right

Welcome!

I just got off the phone with the Eastern Reps of G Loomis.  They have confirmed that G Loomis will be present and accounted for at Spey Nation V on July 14, 2012.  They also hinted at new product and that there may be something with that famous fish logo on the raffle table.  Can’t wait to see what they have in store for us!

Trout Power Fly Fishing Tournament to be held June 2012 on West Canada Creek, NY

Thanks to  great response from the Trout Power Campaign so far, we have decided to have a fishing Tournament on the West Canada Creek in June of 2012.
The Trout Power Tournament will be only outside the Trophy Section and will be open to any type of fishing technique as long as it is single hook artificial and NO BAIT.  The Tournament will also be strictly Catch and Release.

We will need lots of volunteers to Police the river during the tournament.  If you are interested in sponsoring or helping out, please email me at jpross@jprossflyrods.com.
The Tournament will be two days and will have a cash prize of $1000.00 for biggest fish or most fish is still not decided.  During the Tournament there will be lots of fun things to do with the community and after we will have an old fashioned hootenanny.
The Purpose of the tournament is to bring awareness to the river, the area and the business that surround the river.  It is clearly documented the the Trophy Section up river has been a great success, but we want to focus on the sections of the river around the towns, such as Russia, Poland, Newport and Middleville.
Sign up will start January 1st, and currently there is no plan to limit the number of anglers or assign particular sections or beats.
Please stay tuned on this web site and on www.jprossflyrods.com for more details.
update:
